Provide a destination that can be priced
A delivery request needs more than a city name. Give the full site location, district, state and PIN code, together with a receiving contact. If a site is difficult to identify, clarify the access information before dispatch is planned.
Ask whether the quotation is based on collection, delivery to a named point or another defined freight arrangement. Different destination or freight assumptions can make otherwise similar steel rates incomparable.
Identify access and receiving restrictions
Tell the seller about any access, entry, receiving-hour or vehicle restrictions that affect the actual destination. Confirm the proposed delivery arrangement against those conditions rather than assuming every load can be handled in the same way.
If the project has a documented receiving process, share the relevant requirements. Keep dispatch timing separate from a guaranteed arrival commitment and clarify what timing the seller is actually offering.
Make unloading responsibility explicit
Confirm whether unloading is included, separately chargeable or the receiving site responsibility. Identify who will arrange the equipment and receiving personnel required for the actual load.
This guide does not prescribe a lifting or material-handling procedure. Use the appropriate current product and site handling requirements when planning the physical operation. The commercial enquiry should make responsibility and scope clear.
Prepare documents and quantity checks
Ask what delivery documents and product test information will accompany the material. Confirm the agreed quantity basis and receiving records so the team at site knows what to compare with the order.
At the enquiry stage, provide product-wise quantities and the desired receiving window. Once the offer is accepted, keep the destination, freight scope and later changes in the purchase record to reduce avoidable disputes.
