Start with the grade in your project schedule
A TMT bar purchase often begins with a familiar grade name. Problems arise when the enquiry shortens that name or combines several grades in one item. If the approved material schedule says Fe 500D, retain the complete designation in the quotation request and purchase documents.
Fe 500 and Fe 500D should be treated as distinct grade designations for procurement. A shared number does not establish that the products satisfy the same complete set of requirements. Use the applicable standard, current manufacturer data and the approved project specification to compare them.
Ask for the product documents that match the offer
Request the current product information for the offered grade and identify the required material test certificate. Review the product name, grade, manufacturer identification and any heat or batch references that are part of the purchase specification.
A generic certificate or marketing description is not a substitute for documents associated with the actual material. If a seller proposes another grade, keep the alternative explicit and obtain the review required by the project before accepting it.
Prepare a diameter-wise enquiry
List each required bar diameter, supplied length and quantity. Keep separate lines for different grades so a price for one grade is not accidentally compared with a quote for another. Include the delivery PIN code and required timing.
For example, a clear enquiry might request 12 mm Fe 500D bars in a stated length and quantity, followed by another line for a different diameter. The example describes an enquiry format, not a recommendation for the reinforcement design of a structure.
Compare the complete written quotation
Once the product specification matches, compare price units, tax, transportation, unloading and the quotation validity period. A lower headline rate may cover a different grade, quantity or delivery scope.
Keep the final agreed specification with the purchase record. At receipt, use the approved inspection process to compare identification and documents with that record. Clear procurement information is more useful than assuming two names mean the same material.
Your enquiry checklist
- Use the complete grade designation
- Separate quantities by grade and diameter
- Request current product and test documents
- Review any proposed substitution before acceptance
